AEC-RSAF Open House Reflection

Question: What are some background information you discovered as part of your planning for the visit?

I discovered that the RSAF open house was roughly the size of

NINE FOOTBALL FIELDS!!

jon stewart daily show boom mind blown mindblown

On a more serious note, I actually found out that it has been five whole years since the RSAF had an open house; since 2011 and that there would be “aircraft arming demonstrations, aerial displays , static exhibitions, performances by the army’s Red Lions Parachute Team, aircraft rides and more”(ChannelNewsAsia). They definitely did not disappoint, we had such a wonderful time there.

Question: Discuss in your opinion, some of the key issues related to this visit.

One of the main problems, in my opinion, is the safety of the people in National Service(NS). I am 100% sure that injuries there is like catching a flu, it’s very common. I believe the well-being of the servicemen may not be as “safe and secured” as they promote it to be. It does not have to be limited to the RSAF, the NS in general. There are even stories of fatalities there. To be more accurate, over 80 fatalities confirmed from 1968-2012. This blog shows a full list of the deaths of NS men. Here is an interview of a poor mother who lost her son because of NS.

If the video is too small, click on the FB icon to go to the actual page.

Question: After this visit, what do you see as your role/responsibility as an individual to the community?

I strongly believe my responsibility as an individual is, to make sure that I am fit and mentally prepared for NS. If I can’t get myself to overcome challenges, there’s no point in going there. It will not be easy, it never will be, but I have to push through it and work hard so I will be ready to serve the country.

DMIT-Overview of WordPress

What are the functions of the principal components?

Linux

The Linux operating system provides the platform for secure and reliable operation of the web server. Access to the file system is governed by file permissions and enforced by the operating system. The operating system also provides interfaces to the networks and enforces process and user security.

Apache

When a user requests a page or content from the web server, Apache receives the HTTP Request and interprets the contents. For example, Apache will determine whether a file extension has been supplies as part of the Request. If so it will determine whether the requested resource is a static items, e.g. a simple web page stored as an HTML file, or whether the requested item relates to an application, e.g. a PHP file. Depending on the complexity of the requested item, Apache may be required to locate and respond with a number of resources, e.g. the basic HTML file, CSS files, Javascript, images and other media like MP3 audio files of SWF video files. Apache determines where to locate the content based on the path specified in the HTTP Request and the file paths identified in the HTML content.

PHP

Increasingly users expect to be provided wuth dynamic content, which may be influenced by time, current events, the user’s location or personalisation. With these more complex websites, static HTML pages are largely replaced by applications. One of the most popular scripting languages is PHP and there are a wide range of applications available including content management systems (CMS) like Joomla!, forums, bulletin boards, shopping carts, etc.

For a dynamic site, the Apache web server is configured to recognise when a script needs to be run, this may be through a combination of file extensions and default settings. For example, if a website’s home page is requested and the server has PHP installed, Apache will seek an index.php file in the root directory if there is no index.html file in the website root directory. It is this mechanism which is used to initialise applications like Joomla! The PHP scripts will be used to store and retrieve information and to render the HTML page layouts for transmission back to the user’s browser by the Apache web server.

MySQL

Typically a PHP website will also use a MySQL database to store content and configuration information. It is possibel to build sites where the contents are storeed in flat text files, but the use of relational databses like MySQL gives greater flexibility. The interaction between the Apache webserver and the MySQL database is handled by PHP.

Save any leftovers every week for the next week
  •  How often do I need to save?
  • How can I balance ‘WANT’ and ‘NEED’?
  •  Planning how you spend and save your money is very important
  • Don’t borrow from loans that you cannot pay
  • Spend money on what you need before spending money on what you want

DMIT PROJECT

1.What does URL stand for?

A Uniform Resource Locator(URL) is basically an address designed to let computers “talk” to one another quickly. Every address is put together in the same way so that when one machine communicates with another one, it can recognize each part of the address in the same way each time it gets a message. If every message comes in the same form, the receiving machine can anticipate it in that form and act on it more quickly.

2.What is the default scheme for URL?

  • Give every site a unique address to detect their location
  • Serve as a protocol to detect the location of addresses
  • Help data to be transmitted across the net

Help us to access the documents , images , information across the net.
Before the URl address could actually be access , it must first went through the internet server provider. An example of URL is http://wordpress.com the http stand for hypertext transfer protocol which is very important as it help us to secure our data that is being transferred through the wide network to our server provider . As well as , when hackers intercept our password, they will have many real difficulties deciphering our password as it is protect by a special code for example : “my password is cookies but it will be changed to milk when it was being send through down the server so that when the hacker intercept it they cannot decipher the code easily.

3.Here are some examples of URL:

When you use the Web or send an e-mail message, you use a domain name to do it. For example, the Uniform Resource Locator (URL) “http://www.howstuffworks.com” contains the domain name howstuffworks.com. So does this e-mail address: example@howstuffworks.com. Every time you use a domain name, you use the Internet’s DNS servers to translate the human-readable domain name into the machine-readable IP address.

4.Where is the information stored?

I believe the information is being stored at My SQL after referring to the figure.

5.List all the jargons with brief descriptions that  you have learnt

Medical Jargons:

  • Agonal – Term to signify a major, negative change in a patient’s condition
  • BP – Medical shorthand for blood pressure
  • FX – Medical jargon meaning bone fracture
  • JT – A joint
  • NPO – A patient should not take anything by mouth
  • IM – Intramuscular
  • K – The elemental symbol for potassium

AEC- #Weekly Reflections

Reflection (Week 1)

Q: Speak to someone who knows you for at least five years. How do they ‘identify’ you? Your thoughts?

My good friend identified me as an intelligent person who is also fun to play with but he claimed that my  best feature is that I am willing to help others. He even stated that I was a compassionate person. My thoughts? I sincerely feel touched by such kind words describing my personality. I would have never described myself in this way. I guess it’s all about perspective, how you look at yourself may not be how others look at you.

Reflection (Week 2)

#2 Take the quiz. Have your parents somehow influenced my character strengths How can I use my strengths to create the kind of society I wish to live in?

After completing the survey, I realized that I was unsure for a lot of the questions. Nevertheless, the quiz stated that my character strengths were:

  1. Humor
  2. Fairness
  3. Hope
  4. Perseverance
  5. Social Intelligence

Those were some of my strengths. I believe that my parents kind of influenced my character strength, especially the Social Intelligence. It means being aware of others’ and oneself’s feelings; knowing what makes other people tick. Ever since I was a young kid, my mother has been telling me not to do this and that in public, don’t do this or that when eating, do not say this or that to people. So, I guess it stuck with me throughout the years. I think I can use my strength of fairness (treating people equally without any bias). If I do that, hopefully others will follow my example and not treat anyone poorly just because of this and that. The kind of society I want to live in is where everyone is treated equally, we speak to each other equally, regardless of race and culture.

Reflection (Week 4)

Q: Refugee issues, what are your thoughts?

To be honest, why do people treat refugees like some kind of an outcast? It is ridiculous to me, refugees are being forced out of their own country due to civil war, natural disasters, etc. They have no place to stay, the least that the government could do for them is send them to any sheltered housing. What’s wrong with accepting them into the country? How are foreigners different from refugees? I mean, they migrate into the country either to work or make a living. Refugees are humans too, they need to be treated right.

Reflection (Week 5)

Q: What is a “good” country to me? Do I consider Singapore a good country?

A “good” country. There are many ways to define a “good” country, such as healthcare, education, technology and job opportunities. But to me, the people living there makes up the country. Basically, I believe that good people makes a good country. Of course, there’s no perfect country, there are pros and cons to every single country in this planet. One of the countries I consider to be “good” is Japan.

I call Japan a “good” country because of the people there. In general, the Japanese are very polite and respectful. For instance when greeting, they bow down at a specific angle for a specific group age. Crazy right?

But what’s so special about this country that stands out from the rest is how the people are united as one, how they are able to achieve great things by working together.

Watch this video to see what I mean.

After watching the video, you can tell that the Japanese are really disciplined and understanding. It’s amazing how this small town is able to work together, every single person contributed to recycling their wastes. What did they achieved? ZERO WASTE!

I love how their people are so united, even when suffering natural disasters like earthquakes and tsunamis, they care and look out for each other, even if you don’t know the person at all. To conclude, I believe that “good” people makes the country “good”. To me, Japan is a truly beautiful country.
